Ride the Wave!

WAVE Camp is a program of the City of Sacramento, Department of Parks and Recreation, Access Leisure section, in partnership with CSUS, Disabled Sports USA, and United Cerebral Palsy.

WAVE Camp is based at California State University Sacramento and is open to children 10 to 25 years old with physical disabilities. Disabilities include: Spina Bifida, Cerebral Palsy, Amputee, Spinal Cord Injury, Muscular Dystrophy, and other orthopedic impairments. Campers participate in purposeful fitness, recreational, competitive and social activities such as water skiing, kayaking, swimming and scuba diving. This summer adventure camp is designed to provide instructional and recreational aquatic opportunities to youth and young adults. Programs
Programs are directed toward water adventures in varied environments for youth with physical disabilities. These activities are appropriate for campers who are ambulatory as well as those who use assistive devices such as wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, braces, and prosthetics.

Programs Form
The following application packet must be submitted in order to be considered for WAVE Camp. This packet is a Portable Document Format file, requiring free Adobe Acrobat Reader. Learn about the accessibility benefits of upgrading to Acrobat Reader 6.0.


WAVE Camp Staff
Director: Scott J. Modell, Ph.D.
Program Supervisor: Annie Desalernos, Access Leisure
Program Coordinator: Jenny Yarrow, Access Leisure
Administration: Comprised of professional instructors who have extensive knowledge and experience of persons with disabilities.
Support Staff: Professional medical personnel will be on-site to provide services and consultations as needed.
Counselors: Specially trained students from the Kinesiology, Special Education, and Recreation Departments at California State University, Sacramento.
